Diamond Blade Trouble Shooting

Few diamond blade problems are caused by warranty failures - less than 1/10 of 1% (.001). Most problems result from using the wrong blade for the job, using it improperly or equipment problems.

This trouble shooting guide will help you identify, diagnose and correct some of the more common diamond blade problems. The following are samples of some of the issues you may encounter in the field, including some causes and remedies to diagnose and correct real-world problems you may face. If you're experiencing loss of tension, the saw could be misaligned. Check for proper saw alignment. If your blade is excessively hard for the material being cut, it could cause slippage, twisting the blade and making it kinked or bent while stressing the steel center. Make certain you're using the correct blade for the material being cut and maintain a tight grip while sawing. Using flanges that are under-sized or not the same diameter can create uneven pressure on the center. Make certain that flanges are sized properly and the diameter is identical, a minimum 3-7/8 ", 4-1/2" on concrete saws and a 6" minimum on diamond blades that are 30" diameter and larger. Make certain the shaft is turning at the proper RPM by using a tachometer, especially with concrete saws. An improper mounting on an arbor shoulder can become bent when flanges are tightened. Use a secure hold on an arbor shoulder until the outside flange and nut are firmly tightened. A segment can be lost by being twisted or jammed. Holding the material securely while cutting should avoid this problem. If your blade is too hard for the material being cut, excessive dullness can fatigue or pound off the segment. Use a softer specification. If your blade is deflecting, replacing both flanges will provide the proper support. Out-of-round rotation is usually caused by a worn arbor or bad bearings. Replacing worn arbor and/or bearings will remedy this. Overheating is also a common problem and can be detected by a blue color on the steel center where the segment was lost.

Check the water system for blocked water passages and test the pump for functionality. For dry cutting, it may be necessary to make shallower cuts and allow the blade to run freely every few minutes in order to let the air cool it. As always, checking and adhering to the manufacturer's guide and specifications will result in effective and safe usage of your diamond blade.
